Chapter 1: SEO Overview

What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. If you don't understand don't worry about it till the end of this article you will completely understand what SEO means.

Understanding the term SEO

Let's begin the journey of SEO.

In order to explain the SEO, first let's understand one example below:

Eric is a student of science. He is very curious about how solar system works. One day he opens the Google chrome and types his query, “How solar system works”. Once he hit enter button, he sees multiple results showing answer of his query.

Google showing multiple results one below another, those are nothing but the articles/blogs written by some people. The very first article/result is the one which is kept on top position by google and ranked at number one. The very next article is kept on second position and ranked at number two. Likewise, all the other articles are kept below and ranked accordingly.

Google search page is a fully-automated programmed also called search engine. It uses software known as web crawlers that explore the internet regularly and find articles, give them rank and position them accordingly on a Google search page.

How does Google know how to rank an article?

There are number of people who writes thousands of articles or blogs daily. Does google show (visible) all articles on its search page? Well, the answer is NO. Not all pages are shown by google and even not every article is ranked on google search page. Then how google show articles on search page and how google rank them? So, the answer is Optimization.

Well, we will learn in detail what is optimization but now just understand search engine has a single goal only, it aims to provide users with the most relevant answers or information, for this Google has two requirements/Essentials 1. google search engine accepts the articles to give then visibility and 2. google search engine rank those articles accordingly. The combination of these two requirements/Essentials is called optimization. Google show visibility to only those articles which are optimized according to the google and ranked them according to their optimization level.

So, the very first article is optimized well enough? Of course, yes.

Eric has been shown to those articles which are optimized according to search engine and those articles are called SEO friendly articles.

By now I hope you understand a little bit about SEO. Keep in mind that optimization is not only limited to visibility and ranking but many other requirements also to be fulfilled to make an article optimized well. We will learn complete SEO but it is such a vast topic to complete in a short article.

Why SEO is important?

SEO is important as it can bring more traffic, leads, customers, and bring revenue to your business. There are billions of searches on Google every day. And when SEO is done right, it can bring a massive amount of traffic to your website.
